There aren’t many brands. I just pick up the real gold leaf (don’t use the imitation, it tarnishes) from my local art supply store. You’ll also need to pick up a product called sizing which acts as the glue for the leaf. Any attempt to leaf on your own will give a shabby chic finish because leafing requires several built up layers to get a perfect finish. By only doing the first layer or 2, you’ll have a great finish. When you’re done, you can protect it with a coat of varnish to keep it from rubbing off too easily or scratching. The only other tool you’d need would be a beaver art brush to put it in place and burnish it to get it to adhere well.

play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find colors that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the “painted” rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:http://www.sherwin.com/visualizer/I think a warm orange like “copper mountain” (# 6356) would look terrific. You can also take a photo of your house & upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:http://www.roomvues.com/You can get color suggestions & they’ll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like.

when im in a girl’s room, i like to see their vanity table and their closet, b/c this way i can tell if my GF is all about fashion and clothes. I dont want to see “princess” and slutty things across a your room, but i dont want to see boy clothes either. also, make your bed and limit the amount of dolls and “cute” stuffed animals, because that stuff is for girls under 10. put on some candles and scent the room, dont make the room too humid (maybe turn on the ac or open the window) hide all of your dirty clothes and private clothes (bras, etc.) and put away anything embarrasing away in your closet or under your bed. if you bf looks there, then he is invading your privacy. Keep your bathrrom clean, meaning make sure the mirrors are spotless and there is no razor or pieces of hair lying around, same goes for tissues. you should have 1 garbage wastebasket, and that is where all ur garbage should be ( not on the counter or on the floor or under your bed). Keep your books organized on a shelf. You can bring in a radio and put on some music to prevent awkward moments, and most of all hide away all of your fantasies, such as pics of male models. LOL Gl! im sure u willl do great and boys will naturally feel weird in a girl’s room, so get used to it

I’ve lived with some sort of variation of it for most of my life, but mainly European and Asian shabby chic which is a little less white. When you live in Europe, most of the furniture you start with when you leave home comes from family and can be literally centuries old. First, you cover those berger and empire chairs with some interesting upholstery fabric and throw a couple of pillows on it. As you become successful, you realize the padding is shot and you have it reupholstered (much to your grannies shock & awe) and the padding re-worked. Over the years as your life changes, your furniture does too, but only in that you change the fabric, the paint, the stain or the style from channel back to button back to reflect who you are, where you’ve been and what you’ve become. We rarely throw anything out, we pass it on to someone else who will do exactly the same thing we did! LOL

You need to add a strong, bright color in small quantities.Bright pops of orange or kiwi/lime green would add life and a bit of warmth.Bright red or blue would add zing, but keep it cool. All would be fun.

Instead of an old quilt, consider buying one that incorporates chenille. Not only is it beautiful, but the texture is appealing to the touch. Part of the shabby chic style is a slight mis-match of items, so add a variety of throw pillows to the bed that are made of different fabrics, like cotton, chenille, velvet, even wool. Look for different shapes, too. Your wicker idea is a nice touch. You could also add a small area rug, again incorporating texture. As for the other color, I always associate green, white and pink when I’m thinking of the shabby chic look.

How about painting it yellow (or orange) and then using a cloth to rub in purple where the crevices are for a shabby chic look.I would prefer the same method with a gold underlayment then a brown rub but that’s not so shabay.

  11. c_kayak_fun Says:

No, it’s kind of a creamy slightly yellowish white. You might have to paint the dresser to match it. You don’t have to match all the furniture anyway — why not get the Hemnes in a different color? I don;t think the two whites will go together. IKEA white tends to be blindingly white.

I would suggest painting the walls a very soft pink (look at Ralph Lauren at Home Depot) and hanging green or blue gingham curtains on a cute decorative rod. Pictures hung with ribbons are a great idea and so are lots of mix and match throw pillows if you happen to have a rocking chair in the room. I also love using baskets with liners on shelves or on the changing table. Good luck and have fun!
